Watching Melons

This is sort of a repost I posted this tune back a few months ago, I warmed up the mix ,swept the corners , and converted it into the ever so popular compressed mp3 format. I want to rerecord this tune with drums, bass, and all the other stuff, but I know I'll never quite capture it like what I recorded here. This song could be about a lot of things. For me its about giving in and giving what you as an individual can share with the world. The song title was something that I scribbled down and it stuck, maybe someday I'll stick another title to it but until then enjoy this as it is. Recorded in the kitchen of our Portland home. on a laptop with a cheap microphone and kids running around in the background. Enjoy....Watching Melons (demo version II)mp3

The Subterraneans

This is one of those books I have had for what seems ever. Ive read it a few times. loaned it out and by miracle got it returned. One of my favorites from Jack Kerouac. The mood in this book is different than his others. This book has a lot of jazz beat mixed into the text. I can recall picking up an old acoustic guitar and opening the book up to any old page. and just singing the words on the page. The Kerouac magic fell into place as song emerged, that can't be done with just any book. Thus the king of the beats does his thing, in this short little gem. Jack knew what to do with an old chair.

Be Here Now

While on the subject of books
Here is a book for anyone that had to live through all the hype of the drugged out sixties. I have read this book several times, gone through a few copies, and am continually surprised when talking books, at the diverse crowd that claims to have read Be Here Now,by Ram Dass. This is one of those books that you get something different out of , every time you reread through the pages.

The Cat Who Walks Through Walls

Working on this bugger. Classic science fiction from Robert A. Heinlein.

The Holy Barbarians

Here is a look at the book I just finished, all dog eared and all. Another author trying to score a hit off the beat scene, along with his views on the world. give it a shot if you've read all the other books on the topic of the beat generation. Author (Lawrence Lipton) past away in 1975 This book is kind of hard to find, I found my copy in a pile of books that were on sale at a thrift store on the coast.

gone into wherever

Well it happened again, just spent a good couple of hours, working on remixing a song, and blamo the ever so famous "were sorry but this program must close" Lost it all except for the raw file, I guess I'll start it over some other day. Using a program I never used before, its not great but kinda cute in a free kinda way. Its called Audacity, got it for free off the net. works pretty good for light editing but for larger projects I'd hit the big boy software, I might suggest if your going to get into it pretty deep save your files along the way, as it doesn't seem to save files worth beans when it has to shut down unexpectantly .I must laugh aloud as I complain about this and then tell my fellow bloggers where to get it. For free it has just about all you need for simple recordings. I use this on my laptop where I plug in a little cheap mic, to record ideas, when I get really rolling I rerecord it on my studio computer. but as a begining tool it works. If you were to take the time to load extra plug ins I bet you could get a little more out of it, as the effects that it comes with are a little weak. Its also good for converting audio files into different formats and converting sampling rates( this is why I originally down loaded the stuff as I needed a different sampling rate for a flash player). I was able to free up some disc space becuase this does so much where in the past I had to use several programs to get the job done. This is far from Pro tools, and it doesn't have much for the guitarist, when it comes to effects so you would have to get your signal processed from somewhere else. I was surprised at how easy this was to use , I give it a thumbs up for entry level recording software, and its Free.
